Do the Monster Mash with Long Awaited Fortress Craft Content Update!

cp9img

XBOX Indie Game sensation FortressCraft has had their latest patch drop. Content Patch 9 brings a new, flesh-hungry element to the game – zombies. Of course, with zombies comes the tools one needs to fight off the horde – which can be as large as 512 zeds. Sawblades and turrets have been added to defeat the brain-hungry masses; however, those who purchase ProjectorGames’ other title, Steam Heroes, will also have the Harrison Axe with which to slug the monstrosities. Zombies are fully customizable and, upon entering a new world, you’ll never know what variation of these walking dead you’ll be going up against.

Another new addition to the game includes the Neoteric Axe, the winner of the Design a New Axe Contest. This beautifully designed item has a special advantage over the normal pickaxe – it allows the player to edit their spawn tower.

If you enjoy Spleef, you’ll be pleased with yet another feature of this content patch. Your skillfully constructed arenas will now rebuild themselves after a game. This will allow for less repairs and more epic battles in the Spleef Arena.

Other features of the patch include: an “Underground” level type, new light models with which to brighten your world, and weapons and stats screens. 31-player multiplayer has been included unofficially, but will be open to the public within the next few weeks – allowing more players than ever to build together.

FortressCraft: Chapter 1 is available for purchase on the XBOX Indie Game Market for 240MSP. http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/FortressCraft-Chapter-1/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80258550821

Shuggy continues his platforming adventure on another platform

Smudged Cat Games is pleased to announce that “The Adventures of Shuggy” will soon be released through Steam!  If you do not know about “The Adventures of Shuggy” Read our review HERE.

The Adventures of Shuggy was released on XBLA in June of last year to be largely ignored by everyone, but now we’re trying again,… on Steam. Yes, that’s right, despite being an excellent slice of retro-styled 2D puzzle-platforming goodness with a cracking variety of different mechanics and ingenious puzzles hardly anyone bought the game. So, if you haven’t got an XBox stay tuned to find out when you’ll be able to play it on your PC through Steam (we don’t have a release date yet).

…and if you’ve got an XBOX, go and buy the game now.

There are over 100 levels in the game connected through a gradually unlocking map screen ensuring there is always a variety of levels to choose from. Various different mechanics give each level a fresh spin with Shuggy travelling in time, swinging on ropes, rotating levels, turning to a zombie, shrinking, growing, flying, teleporting and more. The game takes place in an old Scottish mansion recently inherited by young Shuggy, a cartoon vampire. To clear the mansion of evil spirits he must venture through the five different areas of the mansion, The Dungeon, The Boiler Room, The Gallery, The Graveyard and The Clocktower. Progress through the mansion is punctuated by comic book cut scenes and the occassional boss encounter.

Feeling Cube-ish? OneBeeKay sets release for We Are Cubes!

After over a year of development, fledgling indie studio 1BK have announced their debut title – an old-skool arcade shooter entitled ‘We Are Cubes’ – is ready for launch. The game is a vibrant, fast paced arcade shooter set in a neon-wireframe world and was inspired by some of the great 1980’s arcade hardware. With vector-style graphics & HUD, high score tables, a chip-tune inspired soundtrack and an addictive blend of competitive-collaborative multiplayer thrown into the mix, this addictive, easy to play, yet difficult to master game feels like a blast from the past yet reassuringly fresh.

We Are Cubes is due for release on Xbox Live Indie Games the weekend of the 31st of March and carries crisp HD graphics, a huge range of awardments and un-lockable content.

The game features ‘Arcade’ and ‘Survival’ modes, both available as single or local multiplayer where success relies heavily on a keen eye and quick reactions. Players can choose to use Power Ups and Upgrades to work together, get an edge (or downright disadvantage) over their human counterpart.

Arcade mode features 25 waves of spheres, while Survival mode packs an unlimited amount of bosses. The game features 11 usable Power Ups and 4 permanent Upgrades which increase in rank throughout the game. There are 20 awardments, 10 cubes and 7 original soundtracks to motivate you on your journey up the online leaderboards!

1BK is a UK-based indie studio formed by Victor Garcia and Steven Noakes with support from Andy King. They all share the same passion for making quality games that has pushed We Are Cubes from a university project to the Xbox Live Marketplace.

The whole package is competitively priced at 80MSP and should be out on or around Friday 30th March.

Follow 1BK on Twitter (@onebeekay) or their Facebook (facebook.com/onebeekay) for more information, comments and feedback.

Kick, Punch, Operate and PRESS START: Team2Bit Needs Your Help

Write up by: Master Blud
Team2Bit has some great personality.  These veteran game developers need your help.  They have started a Kickstarter campaign that will run to April 29th.  They are in need of a $10,ooo.  That is a lot of quarters.  The game being presented in the Kickstarter campaign is “Fist Puncher”.  In Fist Puncher, you are Dr. Karate (Neurosurgeon and Karate Master), you lead a team of vigilantes.  You must help the lawless city from the crime lords’ reign of terror.  Fist puncher has a more different experience than your typical side scroller beat em up.  It gives the essence of what they like to call “Double Dragon meets Castle Crashers”.  Both of those titles peak my interest.  Although the art style is of a “Retro/Nostalgic” look, it is safe to say that you need to play more variety of games.  It isn’t all about your Call of Duty or your Mass Effect.  Why not take time away from those games and play something different, or gain interest in a different approach.  Ya know, that is just the nostalgia talking.  So I will leave you to it.  I support these fellers, I think you should to.  Also, I just caught up with “The Next Game Boss”, and would like to congratulate the team on winning this uber prize.  Below is the official press release  from Team2Bit themselves.  Good luck guys.  I am looking forward to karate and open brain surgery.

Little Racers STREET Gets Major Content Update

Many of you know the original Little Racers from Milkstone Studios.  Little Racers STREET brought back the flavor of that Xbox Indie Gem, with more visual splendor, customisation, and more tracks than would could ever hope to imagine.  I am still playing Little Racers STREET to this day, earning money on the track, although I am really horrible at driving games.  The point is, the community input in this title is taken very seriously and the developer has listened to a (more…)

Nioki Adventure coming soon to PC and Xbox360

Nioki Adventure is made by french indie studio Bido Games. Nioki Adventure is a cooperative 2D sandbox game; but make no mistake the concept, gameplay, crafting, exploration and all these new features will be totally different to offer an advanced, innovative and unique experience for this type of game.

They are looking make an approach on Terraria type games, including and adding more features:

  • Multiplayer Gameplay
  • Exploration
  • Bosses
  • Construction
  • RPG Traits
  • Skill Tree

The game looks gorgeous and features some visuals on what we already are accustomed to, such as “Terraria” and “Blocks That Matter” Which is also made by a French Indie Studio as well.  Myself, I am not too much into the whole Terraria/Minecrafting sort of deal.  But with every improvement of certain genre of games such as Sandbox/Voxel, they tend to gain my interest more and more.  Below is attached screenshots of the upcoming game.  Don’t forget to visit their website at Nioki Adventure and their twitter @NiokiAdventure

[VVGtv] Freds Fridays Numero Seis (6) Un resumen de esta semana (in spanish)

Note: This entire post is in spanish and english.
Hola, soy Ryan.

[English]

Hi, I’m Ryan. It has been quite a week hasn’t it? StickyDpadGames seems to have gained some exposure. Earlier this week StickyDPadGames tweeted to the creator of Super Meat Boy, just a character design he sketched together.  Several minutes later, the developer of  Super Meat Boy -Edmund McMillen, responded to the developer of the “Night of the Fred” and gave the approval for use in the game! Below is a picture of Zombie - Super Meat Boy.

StickyDPadGames planea hacer un documental sobre “Dawn of the Fred”. A continuación se muestra la foto del arte de la caja reclamo que se utilizará para “Dawn of the Fred”.

[English]

Another announcement came from StickyDPadGames twitter account saying they are going to be working on a side project  called “Dawn of the Fred”.  Which seems to be some sort of pre-game experience with survival modes.  Our best bet is that it is releasing in late spring or early summer.

“Cell: emergence” releasing this Thursday on PC and Xbox Indies

Direct from Press Release from New Life Interactive

The action surgery game “Cell: emergence” will be released Thursday, February 9th on Xbox LIVE Indie Games, GamersGate, GameStop PC Downloads (formerly Impulse), Green Man Gaming, Playism, and Desura. A free demo will be released on Tuesday, February 7th.

In the game players fight a nanoscale war against disease inside the body of a sick child. The fast, deep simulation of tissues, antibodies, germs, nanomachinery, and other elements is achieved with a “dynamic voxel” gameworld, within which every visual detail has meaning, reacts to the player, and interacts with its neighbors.

The Xbox version of the game, selling for 400 MS Points, offers a world of almost half a million cells, and the “Cell HD” version on PC, selling for $8.95 USD, offers a world of nearly a million. The HD version on the PC also provides higher fidelity sound and more frenetic gameplay tuned exclusively to the mouse/trackball/touchpad.

The Xbox version will be available in English and in English subtitled for Japanese, German, and Spanish. The PC version will be available in the preceding languages plus Italian, French, Russian, Simplified Chinese, and Korean.

Inspired by “hard” ’80s arcade games like Defender, Centipede, and Missile Command, Cell offers 17 punishing levels that require players to decipher a level’s “cellular automata” simulation and then battle living processes with speed and dexterity.

The game’s story, written by Deus Ex writer Sheldon Pacotti, is a first glimpse at a near-future fictional world where war is fought in code and chemistry and the inner workings of Nature.

-Platformines- Development update: Inventories, Energy, Ugly Pizza Monsters

Grabbed from DevBlog at Magicko Gaming:

What’s new in the Platformines development these days ?

As you can see at the beginning of the video (watch in HD), there is now a ‘customize hero’ screen that lets you deck out your dude. We are still adding more possibilities but already you can make some pretty original faces.

Inventories: We have full working interfaces for exchanging objects, storing, buying and selling your goods. This was a pretty heavy task to design and code, so it’s really nice to see it fully functional ingame.

We have started to implement the whole progression of the game: increasing difficulty requiring you to get better energy belts and weapons to be able to go further down. Lots of work is left in order to actually fine tune it all, but it will be a fun task (hopefully!).

Finally, some content has been added, like sounds and music, traps, blocks, monsters, ect… still a lot of content to be done as well.

VVGtv Exclusive: Freds Fridays #4, Our Visual Journey Begins!

Alright you creeps, it’s Freds Fridays. We know you love seeing the exclusive stuff here on VVGtv. Make sure to share with anyone you please, even linking in to past Freds Fridays as well. This week we are treated to a teaser trailer to Night of the Fred by Sticky DPad Games, and boy oh boy does it set the mood. Although cartoonish, it gives me the chills every time I watch it now. We hope you enjoy this weeks Freds Friday. Below is a little breakdown and update on the development process of Night of the Fred. Follow them on twitter too @StickDPadGames.

For the trailer:
The main idea for it is just to give people a glimpse of what the games about. As well as the games feel and atmosphere. Since announcing the game, we haven’t really revealed much, and nothing at all video wise. So we decided to put together a teaser trailer with what we have so far. Admittedly, there’s no zombie killing gameplay, but who’s to say there won’t be next month? ;)

Breakdown:
The trailer is showing Fred go through some of the different areas in the game. Firstly there’s the first town of the game, LeafFall, Fred’s home town. Secondly is the snow town of the game, and thirdly, is a key scene in the game, but we ain’t tellin’! I think the rest is pretty self-explanatory!

Update:
Development is going well. We now have the inventory in and working! We’re also working on companions, quite a few of them as well! Work on the second town has begun, and still on course to hit that October 2012 release date!

BRAND! Available Now on Xbox Indie Games

ClickBanner to be brought to marketlink

Brand is now available from  Nine Dots Studios on the Xbox Live Indie Games.  Below is details on the game and the release trailer for the Brand. Brand is currently available for 80 Microsoft points.

Excerpt from older post: Xbox Indie Games Getting a Well Deserved Brand

Assets and Description grabbed from Nine Dots Studios

Brand is a pilot project and is developed using XNA Game studio and will be available on the Xbox live Indie Games channel. Nine Dots Studio plans to port Brand to PC and digitally distribute it. Brand is an archaic word used to describe a sword.

Here is the trailer of Brand displaying most of the Powers and Monsters in the game.

Brand is a customization game contained in a 2.5D action game. The player has a very simple task: he is handed a pathetic sword and asked to make it fit for a king. In order to do so, he must get help from a Mage, a Smith and a Chemist to enhance the sword until it is deemed strong enough. The three of them will send the hero to face monsters in a Steampunk Castle, an Alexandrite Mine and a Cursed Necropolis to gather reagents used to upgrade the titular sword.

The player has a wide array of choices in how to upgrade his sword, and these upgrades directly affect the player’s abilities, so that every new game offers a different experience. Expect a few jokes along the way, as you battle ever more powerful monsters with an increasingly ludicrous weapon. A game should last for a few hours, but the high replayability will make up for it. Being a game for the Xbox Live Indie Games channel, it has to be easy to pick-up and play, convincing the player to purchase the full game after a few minutes of trial!

Here are the nine powers that can be upgraded in Brand. Additional rewards await those who upgrade thematically linked powers.

Powers from the blacksmith:

Refine
Refine increases the potency of every other power, changing the blade’s material from pig iron up to mystical metals.

Strengthen
This upgrade increases the damage of the three basic attacks available from the start. It changes the shape of the sword, making it increasingly impressive and ornate.

Sharpen
This process increases the reach of the dashing attack and allows to dash through multiple monsters or through a bigger one. This upgrade makes the sword leave a trail as its sharp edge rends through the air.

Powers from the chemist:

Poison Coating
Any quick attack from a poisonous sword will cause the enemy’s life to wither away. Multiple attacks increase the poison’s potency and thus the damage over time it causes. The blade oozes toxic ichor, making it clear your hero is not concerned with honor but only with dealing death.

Demon Blood Coating
Usually, a blocking hero takes less damage and doesn’t recoil from enemy attacks, but with this upgrade, blocking becomes an attack! Dark tendrils surge out of the blade and shred any opponent while you stay in a defensive stance. This vile enhancement is double-edged however. Block for too long and you’ll start taking damage too, as the hazardous substance ravages your body as well.

Sun Dust Coating
This power gives the sword a chance to randomly deal critical damage on any given hit, which becomes more frequent as the ability is upgraded. Huge lens flares burst forth from the sword as a critical hit is scored, enveloping the screen in a bright and kitschy glow.

Powers from the mage:

Fire Spell
With this power, every heavy attack sends out a wave of fire forward, making this one of the few ways to attack at a distance. A haze of flames surrounds a blade thus enhanced.

Time Bend Spell
This spell transforms the dash into the ability to teleport through enemies, attacking each of them multiple times. This mighty work of magic cannot be fully contained by reality, causing ethereal time fractures to follow your blade’s every movement.

Shadow Spell
This power creates a shadowy blade that strikes behind the hero while he attacks enemies in front of him. A spiral of eldritch litanies surrounds the blade, ominously humming, ready to be activated.

Nine Dots Gets Boost for Brand!

Nine Dots Studio successfully meets its crowd funding
campaign goal thanks to a very substantial donation

Québec, Canada – January 16th – Less than a month before the deadline for its crowd funding campaign on RocketHub, Nine Dots Studio met its campaign goal. This might not have been possible without a single contribution of an astounding 8200 dollars. The highest reward was offered for contributions of 2500$, making this an act of incredible generosity. Now that it met its objective, the studio is confident that they will be able to finally get out of the founder’s apartment, where they’ve been working for almost a year.

Two weeks are still left before the deadline and contributors are still very welcome to support the studio by buying one of the many rewards offered on their campaign. The rewards offered can be very appealing to gamers, students and developers alike.

About Nine Dots Studio

Created in Québec city, Nine Dots Studio is a new independent studio that started production on its first title in March 2011. Almost a year later, they are about to release their first project on Xbox Live Indie Games. They are currently looking into PC distribution platforms as well.

The team is currently composed of 5 individuals working full time on this start-up. Their intent is to create a profitable studio in which they create the kind of games they want to play, without facing the abuses commonly observed in video game development.

CSR Studios Teasing with a Screenshot

Recently this morning, CSR Studios tweeted out, a possible new game. They said in short, it will just be a little game. Would you like to see more from this screenshot, if so give your opinions or support.  I think we can expect great things from just looking at this, even if it was a small title.  Possibly a flash game, who knows?
