Coming soon, Honor in Vengeance II #XBLIG! A beautiful 3D shooter!

MichaelArts Announces “Honor in Vengeance II” for Xbox Live Indie Games
The second installment in the Honor in Vengeance series will be available August 5th on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Mt. Vernon, Illinois – August 2nd, 2011 – MichaelArts will continue the Honor in Vengeance series with the release of the new sci-fi space shooter, “Honor in Vengeance II”, on the Xbox Live Indie Games Channel.

MichaelArts, headed by the 18 year old Michael Hicks, made their Xbox 360 debut with “Honor in Vengeance”, last January on XBLIG. The game focused on the story of Juno Lucas, one of the top pilots in the steadily growing Martian rebellion. The Martian’s plans to win their independence from Earth’s abusive government, the UNAF, plows forward as “Honor in Vengeance II” picks up where the first left off, and includes a good number of gameplay additions and improvements.

“It was great to bring back the original development team, and also bring in some new people to help this time around,” stated Hicks, who recruited a small team of talented individuals to work on the first game. “We’ve spent a lot of time and effort working on this game, and I feel like our work has paid off.”

“Honor in Vengeance II” will be released this coming Friday, August 5th.

Windhaven Coming to #XBLIG

Written By: Master Blud
Windhaven, what’s in a name? I certainly do not pay attention to the name. Your world of Windhaven becomes invaded, and you must defend it. Taking flight as many types of birds, an epic adventure is about to unfold.

Windhaven is one of the many entries in the Indie Games Summer Uprising, by the looks of it, I say it’s going to make it. I personally would love to play this game, I mean just look at it. Xbox Indie Games are sometimes looked down on, but that shouldn’t stop you from playing it. I myself love a good indie game, honestly I do. When developer put high quality into a title like this, it will definitely be worth your time investing in such beauty. The game is to be released for 400 Microsoft Points on the Xbox Indie Games sometime this summer. Here are the features the game has so for.

* 16 story missions, 24 challenge missions
* Unique control scheme captures the feeling of bird flight
* Painted story art with full voice acting
* Save the world of Windhaven from an extradimensional horde
* Refine your flying skills with racing, soaring and target shooting
* Free flight mode with realistic physics and 8 flyable birds.

Below are screen shots and teaser trailer of Windhaven.

TIC Part 1 To release on June 21st on the #XBLIG

Earlier this month we uncovered a new title coming to the Xbox Indie Game Marketplace, that was absolutely Jaw-Dropping in visuals. The only thing is that it isn’t just about the visuals, looking at the trailer I can see that I will be tied up in this game for a review for probably several days. With this I bring you the official press release from Red Candy Games.

RedCandy Games has slated the release date for their anticipated first installment of the four-part episodic series, TIC:Part 1, for Tuesday June 21, 2011. The RedCandy Games team will be hosting a handful of pre-release promotions over the next week across their Twitter, website and Facebook Pages for a chance to win a free download of the game when it hits the Xbox Live Indie Marketplace early next week for 240msp.

Recently TIC:Part 1 took home multiple awards from the RPI Gamefest including 1st place and People’s Choice awards, sponsored by Agora Games, Vicarious Visions, and Zynga. The game has been featured across popular indie gaming press including Gamergeddon, XBLAFans, XBLA Ratings, Armless Octopus and N4G.

In TIC: Part 1, players take on the role of a unicycling, wall-drilling, helicoptering mining robot across the first three chapters of the 2.5D action-adventure platformer coming to Xbox Live Indie Games. The game was developed using RedCandy Games’ proprietary engine, “JawBreaker,” to facilitate in-game level/challenge editing and aid in the implementation of the game’s unique 3D-composited art-style.

Master Blud Previews Mr. Gravity coming to #XBLIG

Angry Newton’s Mr. Gravity Coming Soon to #XBLIG

I have lately been looking up on the YouTube on what has been secretly coming out. Mr. Gravity is one of those that may be overlooked. I myself have found this game utterly weird but fun looking at the same time. I sat there and watched the video several times just to grasp the genre it would probably be. Later figuring out that it is a Puzzler/Platformer Mix, which is great, more games with more mixes certainly catches some attention. Take a look here at the video below and see what I am talking about. Also visit them on twitter and let them know what you think at AngryNewton or the website Mr Gravity

Bullet Asylum Coming to #XBLIG and #WP7

Looks like Bullet Hell Shooters are going crazy this year and are the bees knees. I myself love a good bullet hell shooter. The folks over at UberGeekGames definitely set a bar on this one and it looks absolutely beautiful. One of the many examples as to why the Xbox Indie Games Flourishes with quality like this. Although this video was released last September, it is something to look at and is truly amazing. This is not a finished product but from what I can see it is going to be quite the game. The title will also be releasing on the WP7 and Xbox Live Indies. Oh boy I can not wait to play this. Check out Uber Geek Games and stay up to date on this beautiful shooter coming to Xbox Live and WP7. Also take a look at the list of games previously made like (Awesome Tank, A Game of Tennis, Dungeon Adventure, The Manly Game, and Super Hero Avatar Force)

Frostydowns Dig! Build! Defend!

Well would you look at this. As many gamers, we like bacon……hopefully most of us. How many of us wear hats or like hats? I DO!!!! ME ME ME ME!! Anyways Frostydowns is bringing a whole new experience with two titles that just seem outright fun, those titles are in the process of being renamed but it seems to fit just fine. Dig! Build! Defend! seems like more mining and collecting resources, plants grow and yes there is bacon and hats.

If you are interested in learning more about this great game head on over to Frostydowns and read up on the other title coming out called RogueLike XNA and DIG! BUILD! DEFEND! They also have downloads of the ALPHA VERSION on the site for each game. These are PC Only, Enjoy.
Below is an attached video of Dig! Build! Defend!

Let’s Get our Angry Faces on with ToeTicTak!

Article Written by : Master Blud

Lately I have been seeing a lot of developers porting to the PC and XBLIG, as well as WP7 and the Apple iOS Devices. Developers who take advantage of this opportunity will definitely bloom. Seeing as this specific company “Angry Games” is going to release on both the PC and XBLIG with the game titled “ToeTicTak” there should be no reason for at least some success.

Although the game uses a Pen and Paper type Tic Tac Toe design (We do not have screen shots) Some users of the community might look down on such a game on an Xbox360 or PC. Maybe mobile devices would be more appropriate, who knows. I however appreciate most titles on the XBLIG and PC, as the do set an example for other games as well, it shows a large bit of creativity to others and saying that you did this, you made this, you are proud!

I wrote this short article to “Shortly” Prove a point. Although the recent events of so called “Clones” and “You Stole That Idea”. It is basically anyones world, if you can possibly improve the type of game it is or be more creative with it, then GO YOU. Ignore the banter and the trolls, from a good friend George Clingerman who is a great asset to the Xbox Indie and XNA Community gave this advice, I think we should listen. Creativity is a plus, being different but still the same still makes us different, so why not do it with games?

I say to my readers, viewers, bloggers, and friends alike. Just because it looks like something doesn’t mean it feels the same.

As I close out this “Short” Article I will paste the information that was given to me. Above is my own words. Here is Nick Mudry from Angry Games.

Yes, you have read that correctly, the new independent game development team, Angry Games, has finally announced our first title that will be landing on the Xbox LIVE Indie Game’s Marketplace and PC in the near future.
ToeTicTak! is a variation of the classic pen and paper game Tic-Tac-Toe. ToeTicTak! brings all of that fun to the couches of all members of Xbox LIVE. With many options to customize the playing field to fit you most, anyone can have fun playing the simple game of Tic-Tac-Toe.

Along with the announcement of our new game, we have also announced a contest that anyone can be apart of and help shape up one of the best features in our ToeTacTik!, scenarios. All details of the contest can be found here.

Currently, we have no official date on when ToeTicTak! will be released, but please stay tuned to the official Angry Games and Angry Games Twitter for more information regarding that.

Frozen Exile, in Exile. Needs your Help!

Written By: Master Blud
Looks like “Frozen Exile” is needing your help. I had a chance to watch what looks like a concept for Frozen Exile. It sort of made me think on what it would be like to survive in the wild. You have many tools to use, but in all cases of survival you must make these tools, such as weapons and things to help you make what could look like your last dinner.

As I watched the video it seemed like there is an ability to make camp (Shelter) to keep yourself safe, at least for now. In all things questionable this looks like a concept that had caught my attention and does need your help.

I am going to sound like Sally Struthers for a second (With every penny you can give, you can help this developer accomplish his/her dream) I do have to say the concept does look promising and does need more work, well that is what the funding is for. Not developers ask for help with the game but as most supporters of anything, you give and you get back what you paid for.
To go help out this developer click the link given here 8-bit Funding for Frozen Exile. There is also a video below about this concept.

Full Description from 8-bit Funding:

Winter, 10,000 years ago… Its cold, extremely cold. This is a time when no man wants to be alone, but what happens when you’re forced to be alone?

You served your tribe very well as a great hunter for many years feeding many people and saving many lives. You’re loved among your tribe but everyone ages and as far as the tribe is concerned your age has become a liability, they send you to exile.

You walk for an hour but your old skins are full of holes and the cold becomes to much. You find what looks like a nice place to die and stand there waiting for it to come. As you’re waiting you look around and see potential tools and weapons all over the snow. Sticks and stones, they’re everywhere. At that moment you decide to fight, you decide to survive!

The funding features:
Craft all your own tools and weapons.
Build all your buildings.
Hunt or forage food.
Turn a mammoth into a house!
Build a village.
Domesticate wild animals.
Bring others into your new found tribe.
Wage war!

All this and more will be yours when this game is released but first I need a little help. I need donations to get various things that I require for this game. So please, watch the video to see what I’ve done so far. Every donation will be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Undead Empire #XBLIG VVG Indie Verse Preview

VVG IndieVerse Preview

“Undead Empire”

By: Mr. Deeke

Thanks for joining us today for VVG Indie Verse’s Preview of an upcoming Xbox Indie named Undead Empire from Big Rook Games.

This top-down zombie shooter is similar to a few other Indies on the marketplace today: the fun 4-player undead shooter All Out of Bubblegum; the popular fan favorite 8-bit twin-stick shooter Zombie Estate; and top-down twin-stick shooter Zombie Concentration by Drop Dead Interactive.

Below are each game’s box art–click the image to be taken to the marketplace page.

All Out of Bubblegum! Zombie Estate Zombie Concentration

Undead Empire

This game is a traditional top-down view zombie shooter that has unique aspects such as weapon enhancements and varied character attributes. Players can choose to play solo, 4-player local co-op, or 4-player Xbox LIVE co-op. Undead Empire is heavily influenced by the arcade shooter Smash TV published by Acclaim Entertainment in the 1990′s (1).

  • Developer – Big Rook Games
  • Genre – Shooter (Subject to Change)
  • Release Date – TBA
  • Price – 80 MSP

What to expect from Undead Empire

Gamers have played dozens of undead zombie shooters over the years, and there are a wide array of these games available on the Xbox Live Indie Games marketplace as well. With such a vast market of games from the same genre, it’s important for each title to distinguish itself from others. Undead Empire is similar to a few Xbox Indies in terms of style, game design, and function, however it also has it’s own unique elements to entertain gamers.

Expect to be overwhelmed by hordes of undead zombies who want nothing more than to eat player’s brains–yet also expect to be heavily and adequately armed–Undead Empire sports quite an arsenal of weaponry. Shoot your way through dozens of ghouls, working together with your team or playing solo to test your mettle.

Highly recommended to gamers who have enjoyed other Xbox Live Indie Games that are listed above, especially if they are some of your favorites. Undead Empire is coming soon to the XBLIG Marketplace!

Unique Features in Undead Empire

The controls and game mechanics for Undead Empire are very fluent and work quite well. Using the RT to attack and the Right Analog stick to aim while using the Left Analog stick to move, the game will be easy to just pick up and start playing. The dynamics aren’t confusing and are straight forward–basically gamers must defeat waves of zombies and survive, while picking up items like ammo, health, and money to buy upgrades, weapons, and other items.

Four player local/Xbox Live co-op is another unique feature that is quite nice, especially since most Xbox Indies are restricted to only playing locally or through system link. Now gamers can join up with other gamers across the country to enjoy some high-quality zombie slaying action!

Another unique aspect is the story line. I myself enjoyed the rather well-written introduction, and the evil Baron Von Scythe is quite a humorous villain. Throughout the game Scythe promises doom for our heroes, and it’s up to the players to foil his malevolent undead-raising plans.

Wrap Up

All in all Undead Empire is a great game, and playing local co-op or co-op through Xbox Live would be best since the game itself gets rather overwhelming when playing solo. Players can pick what characters they’d like to use as well as what weapons to use in-game, and can customize as well as upgrade their characters for further zombie-shooting entertainment.

For more information on Undead Empire and the studio that created it, Big Rook Games, be sure to follow them on Twitter or check out their YouTube page.

Dwarven Depths #XBLIG VVG Indie Verse Preview

VVG IndieVerse Preview

“Dwarven Depths”

By: Mr. Deeke

Thanks for joining us today on VVG IndieVerse’s third Preview article–on this iteration I’ll be taking a look at an Xbox Indie Game in production called Dwarven Depths by Moonroof Studios. Moonroof is a relatively new XNA development studio, yet this title doesn’t reflect their youth–Dwarven Depths is a great game that’s quite similar to a very popular previously released XBLIG called Miner Dig Deep.

Dwarven Depths

This game, like Miner Dig Deep before it, is influenced heavily from the retro game Dig Dug made in 1982 by Namco in Japan(1).

  • Developer – Moonroof Studios
  • Genre – Action & Adventure (Subject to Change)
  • Release Date – TBA
  • Price – TBA

What to Expect From Dwarven Depths

Dwarven Depths is a fantastic Xbox Indie title, and it’s great to be able to preview this game. I can say having played Substance Games’ Miner Dig Deep that this game is quite familiar; dig through the dirt areas with your pick axe and collect treasures. Unlike Miner Dig Deep this game supports up to 4-players in splitscreen competitive play, with all the action and chaos that comes with multiplayer.

The single most differentiating factor in Dwaven Depths is that players can now utilize a smorgasboard of items, such as the drill that breaks through any number of dirt tiles until it either hits the bottom of the map or a rock, or the rope, which flings upward to allow players to reach previously unreachable heights.

Unique Features in Dwarven Depths

There are a wide variety of gametypes in this title as well–Treasure Hunt pits players against one another in a race to collect precious prized possessions, or the free-play Sandbox mode that allows for un-objective play.

Dwarven Depths also adds a variety of classes for players to choose from, each of which have their own in-game benefits and powers. In the Arena gametype, where players must fight each other in an bloody duel to the death, the classes come into play most heavily with each one having its own gameplay advantages.

Wrap Up

All in all, Dwarven Depths is a great title and I myself had a blast playing it. Whether you enjoy the classic Indie-style graphics, the expansive array of items, or the ability to attack enemies in-game, this Xbox Indie title will have you and your friends playing for hours.

The deathmatch multiplayer function is very well designed and is surprisingly fun–usually it’s harder to have four-player split-screen in an Indie title that functions so well, but this title implements it successfully.

For more information on Dwarven Depths and the studio that developed it, Moonroof Studios, follow them on Twitter for instant updates on this and other upcoming Xbox Indie titles.

Special thanks to Joshua Galecki at Moonroof Studios.

VolChaos #XBLIG VVG IndieVerse Preview

VVG IndieVerse Preview

“VolChaos”

By: Mr. Deeke

Thanks for joining us for VVG Indie Verse’s second Preview article. Today we’ll be taking a look at a game that Fun Infused Games is developing called VolChaos. This game is a platformer at it’s heart with elements such as a horizontal lake of lava that players must avoid at all costs. VolChaos is very enjoyable and the playtest alone has this reviewer wanting more.

VolChaos

I must say that VolChaos is a gem that reminds me of certain stages in other games–traditional platformers where falling down the gaps is lethal–but this game puts a spin on the classic run-and-jumpers by adding an ever-rising tide of scorching hot lava. One wrong move and you’re toast!

  • Developer – Fun Infused Games
  • Genre – Platformer
  • Release Date – TBA
  • Price – TBA

What to Expect from VolChaos

This game functions similar to general platformers in that players must jump over obstacles and gaps in the floor as well as dodge enemies. The jumping in VolChaos is great–gamers get to adjust the height of each jump depending how hard they press the button, and the physics system involved in the jumping is very fluid.

The hero in VolChaos is a Cowboy–yes, that’s right, a cattle-herding gaucho–who’s trying to collect multi-colored gems all the while avoiding the tide of lethal magma below that slowly rises. Will our bronco-busting buckaroo complete his quest for precious stones, or will he fail and sizzle in the scorching depths?

As this is Fun Infused Games’ first official platformer (Nasty is a platformer as well, but can also be dubbed as a shooter too) VolChaos exhibits that the studio’s skills at creating a game in this genre. The sounds are amusing, the animations are very fluent and well designed, and the gravitational physics involved with jumping is fantastic.

Unique Features in VolChaos

Funny Death Animation! When a player touches the surface of the molten lake of fire, our gaucho hero is burnt to a crisp and flies up in the air–this is a cartoonish and humorous death animation that is synonymous with Fun Infused Games’ style. I find myself dying only to see this hilarious portrayal, but be warned–every death is counted.

The Jumping. This game utilizes what I’d like to call “floaty jumps”, that is to say that the jumps aren’t constrained or limited to a small height–they’re a pretty big leap. Playing this game and using the floaty jumps is something that brings a smile to my face, even if I fall right into the fiery lava.

Fast-Paced Action! VolChaos is one of those games you can’t sit around or idle too much, also you have to improvise jumps and make quick, on-the-fly decisions that sometimes come down to simple trial and error. This game is action-packed in the sense that gamers must always be aware of what’s around them, where the lava is, and how to best plan out their next jump.

Wrap-Up

VolChaos is many things–a death-defying side-scrolling 2D platformer where players must be on their feet and look before they leap or risk a fiery death at the hands of the molten lava below. What’s worse is that the lava rises up like an infernal tide. Gamers must use their wits and focus to jump from rocky platforms, collecting precious gems along the way and dodging pesky flame enemies.

Kung Fu FIGHT! #XBLIG VVG Indie Verse Preview

VVG IndieVerse Preview

“Kung Fu FIGHT!”

By: Mr. Deeke

Thanks for joining us on the first-ever VVG Indie Verse’s Preview article. In this debut piece we’ll be taking a look at a side-scrolling platformer/fighter Xbox Indie in the works called Kung Fu FIGHT! from Nostatic Software. This game is similar to the NES version of Kung Fu1 in style and some functions like the fighting dynamics, however Kung Fu FIGHT! is lower resolution and has a different scale.

Kung Fu FIGHT!

This title utilizes aspects from platformers like having to jump over obstacles and focusing on what lays ahead. It also implements a unique side-scrolling variant where the player is always in motion and is interacting with the environment–jumping, sliding, and punching their way through the levels.

Kung Fu FIGHT! Box Art

  • Developer – Nostatic Software
  • Genre – Platformer / Fighting (Subject to Change)
  • Release Date – TBA
  • Price – TBA

What to Expect from Kung Fu FIGHT!

As an adamant Xbox Indies gamer and reviewer I was looking forward to playing this new title: it’s infused with elements from  platformers, side-scrollers, and fighters. There is plenty of action in this Xbox Indie as nearly every second of gameplay takes a level of zen-like focus–much of which is associated with the martial arts theme itself. I feel like a young grasshopper, maturing and growing stronger as I jump over shurikens and kick enemies while leaping.

Expect to acclimate yourself to the controls and the overall flow to the game–it’s very fast-paced and players must be on their feet (or in the air) at all times. There will be moments where players will fail a few times in a row, and then they’ll get in their “zen-like state” and become a Kung Fu master–sliding on tables, punching through enemies, and saving the day.

Kung Fu FIGHT!

Unique Features in Kung Fu FIGHT!

Gamers get to test their reflex and focus skills as well as hand-eye coordination in this fast-paced, exciting fighting/platformer hybrid. Since players are on a “track” of sorts that’s always moving, they must always pay attention and hit the appropriate button–X/LT for punch, A for Jump, and Down (D-Pad, Analog Stick)/RT for Slide.

Sliding is very useful in this game, and players will have to utilize it quite frequently. Getting used to all the controls and functions is an essential part of this game, and each of them can be used in many different combinations. This  allows players to developer their own personal customized methods and proficiencies with each ability.

Kung Fu FIGHT!

Wrap Up

All in all, Kung Fu FIGHT! is a great experience for both platformer fans and gamers who like a side-scroller with a challenge. Since it uses a unique variant of constant-motion side-scrolling action, it can be a bit difficult to get used to–but once gamers focus their chi energy, they’ll be sliding and jump-kicking in no time. It is a refreshing ,fun, and, at times, humorous Xbox Indie title that is a welcome addition to the marketplace.

For more information on the development of Kung Fu FIGHT and the studio that created it, Nostatic Software, visit their website.

Special Thanks to Mike at Nostatic Software.
